Lesson 6 - Generating customers & Advertising
Lesson 6 - Generating customers & Advertising
Tip 1: Lockbot
One way I attracted customers was through the addition of a public lock-bot to my world. This cost me 10wl each day, but in the long run generated more and more customers. How was this effective you may ask? Well... Even though players might not be interested in the items I was selling at my shop, they would at least glance past some, which still was beneficial as you never know, they might need it later down the track, or refer a friend to my world as they “remembered seeing it at FLISE”. My world was now also a service world, which I relied on players to spread the word to their guild members and friends. When they ask the question: “Where is Free Lock-bot, '' I intuitively remind them of my world “FLISE” contributing to the memorable aspect of the world, thus building my shop’s reputation.
Tip 2: Make bold statements in your ads
I made bold statements. In my super broadcasts, I made sure to clearly deliver three things. World name. Free Lockbot. RARES. I constantly reiterated the world name #FLISE, and reminded them of the FREE DAILY LOCKBOT 24/7. No one wants to read long sbs, so just keep it short and concise with all the relevant information. For example, one of my sbs went like: “BIGGEST RARE ITEM SHOP IN GAME AT FLISE. FREE DAILY LOCKBOT #FLISE” Lastly, I also used different coloured texts to make clear the three main messages.
Tip 3: Minimise Super Broadcasting
One of the other key factors that had made this technique successful was minimising super broadcasting/advertising. As you know, an “SB '' costs 25wl, which sometimes can be blocked. I limited “SB’s” to 1 every 2-3 days, keeping it simple, yet engaging.
Tip 4: Get people to advertise for you; relying on word of mouth
Getting players to manually advertise for just a small fee is quite effective. I found that paying players 5-10wl, to fill up bulletin boards in 10 worlds like BUYGHC, SEEDS and specific item worlds. For example, one of the items I was selling was a Piglet Leash. I hired a guy to fill up the boards of BUYPIG, BUYPIGS, BUYPIGLET, BUYPIGLETS etc. This way, potential customers will automatically be redirected and bombarded with instructions to go to my shop world. I also heavily relied on my world being known/spread through the word of mouth. I had to find a way to get people to talk about my world, the rares I sell, the “cheapness” etc. It was the only alternative to super broadcasting which I found super effective.
Tip 5: Micro Influencers
For me I found advertising on instagram quite effective. On my personal page of around 1k followers, I did daily posts about new items added to my vendshop.
Another strategy I found effective was posting on my stories, then tagging a lot of famous Growtopian influencers, each with about 10k followers. (Don't spam them haha)
