Lesson 3 - Investing in Items
Investing in Items
How to pick which items to invest in
Certain items in Growtopia are like houses, whilst others like cars. The items that are like houses always rise in value within a few years - Limited items like Pwings, Draconic Wings, Rollback Plaque 1 whilst items like Aurora wings, or basically any cosmetic (clothing) will definitely drop in value overtime, and never recover - cars. This is because they are infinite and obtainable through infinite activities. Why am I using this comparison? You’d be amazed about the amount of players who fail to distinguish between these two types of items - assets (limited items) and liabilities (clothing). Players tend to want to “look cool” spending their entire networth on sets and clothes which later on when they are in need of dls will have to sell at a loss. I also see players purchase newly released items which later on drops tremendously in value after recipes go public. So that leads to the question: “What should I spend my dls on?” Investments. Spend it on things that would generate you income, like the many profit methods I presented you in the course. If you don’t prefer any of them, then here is how I can help you. I warn you though, what I’m about to say is not for the weak-minded. You must have a strong mindset, one that is willing to take risks, one that welcomes failure.Investing in items can seem tricky, especially searching for the correct ones but I can guide you to successful investment with a few criterias I look for in items.
Tip 1: Functionality
Ask yourself. Does the item you are looking to invest in have a function or greater purpose than simply “Looking good”. Like the example I used before, Phoenix wings or Thingamabobs which are both required for Legendary Quests. These items have a function/greater purpose as without them, Legendary Quests cannot be complete. Other good examples include: Xenonite Crystal, Mining Mech, Rayman, Magplant and Growscan. All these items are unique in their own way. Functionality is key!
Tip 2: Picking items based on upcoming events
Look out for upcoming events that might influence the value of items. This is a critical lesson, largely involving patience. The next time you think about buying/selling an item, think about any upcoming events, whether it be harvest festival, Easter or Summerfest. This is because in most cases, previously released items from an event will drop in value as it is once again obtainable meaning greater supplies and fewer demand. Take the oceanic crown as an example. This cosmetic item was released in Summerfest 2017 obtainable through blasting Super fireworks. In the first year it was 200wl, second year 150wl, third year 110wl and now (2020) is worth 50-60wl. By being able to recognise that items are projected to drop based on upcoming events, you can save wls by being patient and waiting for the event to come, which you can buy the desired item for way cheaper, and sell with lower losses. Identifying upcoming events is a strategy that can also be used by sellers. If you know an event is coming which may affect the price of your item, you have the ability to sell it off early, rather than compete with other desperate LATE sellers, saving you wls and time. Look out for upcoming events that might influence the value of items. Like the example I used before, I personally invested in Thingamabobs as, firstly, I knew they were required for a Legendary Quest and secondly, Kyderby was coming up meaning as Mint juleps drop in price (Another item required for Legendary Bot), Thingamabobs would rise in price. So, look out for upcoming events such as Harvestfest, Growganoth, Easter etc.
What I suggest, maybe Magplants? Or Unstable tesseracts as thousands of players are harvesting/collecting their trees meaning a higher demand for these items? You decide.
