Lesson 9 - What to say when both seller and buyer do not want to state a price
This is a common situation I find myself in. Sometimes players either try to not offend another player by offering prices way outside the buyer/sellers targets or they simply want to get a better deal. We'll start off in the scenario that you are the buyer.
You the buyer
Sometimes sellers do not want to state a price, expecting you to give an offer which could be higher than they originally wanted. Never fall for this trap, always try and get the seller to state his price first, then counter-offer, around your budget. You can do this through many ways, as its all about how you approach this situation, particularly using the correct words.
For example:
- Polite approach: "I'm currently unaware of the price. What's the average?"
- A more direct approach: "How much are you looking for?"
- Trying to reduce the price: "What's your lowest? Are you willing to do any less?"
- "Highest offer?"
You the seller
On the other hand, now you're the seller. This time, your buyer does not want to state a price hoping he can get it for really cheap and not accidentally overpay. When you are selling an item, this time TRY TO ALWAYS get a buyer to offer first, as he/she might unknowingly pay more than you originally wanted.
For example:
- Talk about high offers you've received: "Highest so far is X dls"
- Force your buyer to give a price: "I'm currently unsure of the price. What's your offer?"
