Being Polite - the lost trait when it comes to Trading
I am amazed by the amount of toxic and childish players when it comes to trading. BUYGHC is undoubtedly the worst, which is one of the reasons why I never sell items there as everyone is trying to make profit even for a single world lock. People have labelled me as the ‘kind’ trader, and by people, I mean even the toxic ones. My politeness when it comes to trading has been recognised, but not analysed. Politeness can go a long way. You get better trades, and by that I mean people are more likely to negotiate with you as well as better deals the next time you meet. Politeness also prevents players turning into racist animals yelling at each other, creating a aggressive, tense atmosphere, competing desperately to sell/buy an item. Your every encounter with a person you weren’t polite to will be the same, as hatred and vengeance sticks for quite some time. Here I want to offer you alternatives to probable situations you will face when trading.
Lowballing
Lowballing is done to make profit. Unfortunately, players living at BUYGHC 24/7 are all profiters competing against one another. Everyone hates lowballers, even I agree with that statement. EXTREME low ballers are the worst, the ones that offer 5-10dls below the actual standard price. How do most players react? The most common reaction would be to laugh it off and call them a noob, or start getting angry and swearing. Both these I’d say are quite bad. One, you could trigger the buyer, who might not have known the price, and two, you completely remove the negotiation aspect, as now your seller is offended by you calling him a noob and does not want to renegotiate the price. Instead what I find effective and more polite is to either pretend to be AFK, until he goes away OR just simply say “No sorry, I’ve received higher offers, unless you’re willing to renegotiate”. Guess what, you don’t offend anybody, the buyer might give you a better offer closer to your target price, and you have decreased the amount of toxicity in the game, ultimately bettering yourself.
